Dr. Mary Nyangweso Wangila is the J. Woolard and Helen Peel distinguished professor in Religious Studies at East Carolina University (Greenville, North Carolina).
She received her Bed at Kenyatta University (Nairobi Kenya), her M.Phil Moi University (Eldoret, Kenya), her ThM at Candler School of Theology, Emory University (Atlanta Georgia) her M. Phil and PhD at Drew University in the Sociology of religion.
Mary has taught courses including Introduction to Religion, Women and religion, World Religions, Classical Islam, Religions of Africa, Indigenous Religions, and more.
She is a human rights activist and educator on issues that affect women, especially in the area of religion. She has received other honors including the Fulbright Award.
